What is a Job Bus?
A Job Bus is a charter bus service to help people
get to and from work, and to get and keep jobs. The
cost of the charter bus service can be shared
between employees and employers or paid for entirely
by the employer.
Who operates the Job Bus?
The Job Bus can be operated by any transit company.
Presently, employers are chartering the service
through Edmonton Transit Services (ETS).
Who is Vibrant Communities Edmonton (VCE)?
VCE is a non profit company that helps build family
economic success in Edmonton by brokering the use of
existing resources to help people get and keep jobs.
How does the Job Bus work?
Step 1. Employees are surveyed using a questionnaire
designed and administered by VCE to determine demand
for a JOB BUS. Employees already have transportation
so the survey is intended to get a sense of a
starting number for the bus service. If a company is
experiencing difficulty recruiting employees and bus
service is limited in its area, it may decide to
proceed with the JOB BUS even if the survey shows an
initial low participation rate by existing
employees.
Step 2. Interest in the JOB BUS is calculated by
entering the results from each survey into a
spreadsheet and totaling the results. The survey is
designed to help the company determine the number of
riders per shift and locations for pickup.
Step 3. Once a decision is made to move forward, ETS
is contacted. ETS is able to design a JOB BUS
strategy that is best suited to the company based on
the information gathered in the survey.
