Make Tax Time Pay (MTTP) is a key activity under Vibrant Communities Edmonton’s (VCE) strategy of family economic supports. VCE believes that assisting families’ access benefits, to which they are entitled, will increase their disposal income and thereby help build family economic success.

Since its inception, MTTP has raised awareness about existing government benefits and subsidies in our community and increased the number of eligible working families accessing child health, childcare, leisure programs and adult health benefits/subsidies.

Since it is required for families to file their tax return in order to receive tax credits and benefits, MTTP has combined free tax preparation with information and assistance available to fill out benefit applications.

MTTP was built on the existing Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) organized by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It was expanded by building collaborations with 211 (the Community Support Network) and numerous organizations located across the city and using volunteers trained to provide free tax preparation and benefit/subsidy application assistance.

At midnight on April 30th, VCE completed its third successful MTTP campaign. In 2008, MTTP expanded by 50% to 28 sites across the City of Edmonton involving over 200 volunteers.

Through a variety of collaborative networks in Edmonton including businesses, non profit organizations, elementary schools, government (federal, provincial and municipal), as well as networks of people who are living with low income and interested citizens, we have been able to help out low-income individuals and families access benefits such as:

Make Tax Time Pay

These programs cover a variety of costs such as prescriptions, dental care and vision care for your children. Your children are worth it!

Each of these programs has different income qualifications so if you are interested in applying please read each of the application forms carefully. You must file an income tax return, even if you did not work, in order to apply for these benefits and subsidies. If you would like to learn more about the programs or to apply for a program you can click on the program title above and you will be re-directed to the appropriate website.
